Shirdi is a religious town located in District Ahmednagar of Maharashtra.
It is widely known in India and abroad for Shri. Saibaba Samadhi.
More than 25000 devotees visit Shirdi everyday, and this number goes up very high
on Thursdays, Guru Poornima, Holi and during the vacations.
During the year 2008-09, more than 20 million devotees have visited Shirdi for Saibaba
darshan.
Presently, Shirdi has connectivity only by road. Recently a train has been started
from Mumbai to Shirdi.
GoM has therefore, taken a decision to develop a full-fledged international airport
at Shirdi.
MADC has prepared plans and designs for this airport considering presently as “Code-D”
airport expandable to “Code-E” at a cost of about Rs. 265 Crores.
The land admeasuring of 350 Ha. is already acquired.
It is planned to make this airport functioned by December – 2011. |
