Presently Solapur (Hotgi) Airport is used for non-scheduled flights of VIPs and corporates. Airport is maintained by AAI. Airport is developed on about 143 Ha of land. For expansion of existing airport efforts were made by the AAI. However, due to presence of High Chimney in the approach funnel of airport further expansion is restricted. GoM has directed local authority for taking necessary action for the removal of Chimney. Solapur (Hotgi) airport is selected under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) by Govt. of India. AAI and MADC are coordinating to make the existing airport operational for scheduled flights.
Regarding development of Greenfield Airport, site has been identified at Boramani and Tanduladi. MADC has acquired land of about 549 Ha of land. Further, additional private land of about 32 Ha. needs to be acquired for which Board has granted approval. The land acquisition for this land is under process.Clearance is also required for about 32 Ha. Forest land from Forest Dept. for which proposal is already submitted and under final stage of approval at GoM level.
As per directives of GoM, Greenfield Airport to be developed by forming a Joint Venture Company (JVC) with AAI. As per earlier directives of Board, considering the response to UDAN scheme at Hotgi Airport, further steps to be taken for development of Greenfield airport at Boramani. Hence, the issue of signing of JV agreement with AAI is also pending.
