Presently Amravati (Belora) Airport does not have a Public use aerodrome license and is used for non-scheduled flights of VIPs and corporates. Airport is maintained by MADC. Airport is developed on about 74 Ha of land. For further expansion and modernisation of airport, GOM has acquired about 335 Ha of land.

Amravati Airport is notified as one of the RCS airports under RCS UDAN scheme in the State of Maharashtra. Amravati-Mumbai route has been awarded to Alliance Air under UDAN 3.0 bidding process.

Amravati being Divisional HQ, Govt of Maharashtra has proposed that the Belora Airport should be developed/upgraded as a low cost model airport for ATR – 72 or similar type of aircraft operations by extending the existing runway and be equipped with night landing facilities. In view of the decision of the GOM, MADC has proposed that the existing runway, having an orientation of 08-26 and a length of 1372 m be extended to 1850 m for Code 3C, ATR 72 or similar type of aircraft to operate at the Airport. MADC has also proposed that the airport be upgraded for night landing facilities. Accordingly MADC prepared DPR and Master plan of the project. The requisite clearance from Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Environment and Forest have also been obtained.

In order to make the Airport suitable for ATR-72 or similar operations MADC has appointed M/s RITES (Govt. of India Undertaking) for design and project management consultancy services of Up-gradation of Infrastructure at Amravati Airport.
MADC has also approached Government of India under UDAN Scheme for sanction of funds to take up the Revival of Amravati Airport for RCS operation and proposal has been sent to AAI and MoCA regarding the same.
