Multi-modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur (MIHAN)

To remove the development backlog of Vidharbha Region and harnessing the potential of existing Dr. Baba saheb Ambedkar Airport at Nagpur, Government of Maharashtra with the co-operation of Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken step to develop Nagpur as a Multi Modal International Passenger and Hub Airport, and Multi Product SEZ adjacent to the Airport.

Nagpur, the Second capital of Maharashtra has a strategic central location in India. It is the largest city in Maharashtra after Mumbai and Pune. Nagpur is also on the center of International aviation routes. Nagpur district has a population of over 4.6 millions (as per the census of 2011) and it is a 9th largest Urban agglomeration in India.

The MIHAN project is spread over on about 4300 Ha. of land of which Airport is on about 1360 Ha. SEZ is on about 1236.21 Ha. and area outside SEZ comprising of R&R, PAP, Residential, Commercial and others SEZ related facility on about 1013 Ha.

The Government of Maharashtra vide its GR dated 4th January 2002 accorded approval to MIHAN Project and constituted Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd.(MADC) as Nodal Agency to develop this project. The Government of Maharashtra also declared Maharashtra Airport Development company Ltd. (MADC) as a Special Planning Authority for MIHAN Project.

The government of India in the year January 2008 approved the proposal of Government of Maharashtra to develop Nagpur Airport as Multi Modal International Passenger and Hub Airport.

The Government of India has also accorded approval and notified the MIHAN SEZ as Multi Product SEZ

MADC developed all necessary facilities like 3,4, and 6th lane roads, dual water supply system, sewage system, Electric transmission and Distribution Network, Telecom Network, Street Light, Water treatment and Sewage treatment plants

MADC has already leased about 510 ha. land to various IT Companies like Infosys TCS, Tech Mahindra, Kolland, Hexaware etc. for developing the IT Parks and the manufacturing Industries like Tal, Lupin, and Aircraft MRO facility of Air India and Boeing combine.

Accordingly the Joint venture Company named MIHAN India Ltd Comprising of Mahrashtra Airport Development Comapny Ltd (MADC) and Airport Authority of India (AAI) as a equity parners with 51% and 49% equity repectively was formed.

MIHAN India Ltd.(MIL) was registered in the year 2009 and Airport Authority of India handed over the Nagpur Airport to MIL in the year August 2009. Since then MIL is operating and maintaining this Airport. MIHAN India Ltd has also taken steps to prepare the revised detailed master plan of this Airport and RFQ and RFP documents for appointment of concessionaire for developoing this Airport on PPP basis.

The land for MIHAN Project (MIL) is taken from 15 villages of which 7 villlages are from Nagpur Urban District and 8 villages are from Nagpur Rural District
